Mewhinney family correspondence, 1847-1852.

Chiefly letters written by Jeremiah Mewhinney while serving with the 4th Indiana Infantry Regiment during the Mexican War. Letters describe military life in camp on the Rio Grande and in Mexico, including an account of the battle at Huamantla in 1847. Some of the letters were transcribed by Mewhinney's father, apparently for publication. There are no letters for the years 1849-1851.
